Work for AFEW Rahul Mishra

Season : AW24
My Role : Print and Surface Design for all Textiles
AFEW is the Ready-to-Wear arm of Rahul Mishra's expansive couture universe. AFEW stands for 'Air, Fire, Earth, Water' and its ethos lies in world-building and nature-inspired illustrative elements, in order to create playful yet refined pieces. Being part of the team since its inception, I was the sole textile designer responsible for prints, placements, surface design. In the AW24 collections, various briefs or 'stories' were worked upon to create smaller capsules. This was presented at Lakme Fashion Week, Mumbai in 2024.

01. Tropical
Cherry Blossoms
The cherry blossom is captured in two polar stages, one of emergence (bud) and one of falling away from its tree (flowers). A rani pink is used to add an Indian, tropical sensibilities.
Harper's Bazaar India July 2024

Flowers in full blossom falling from a tree are represented by cut, layered pieces of tulle. The buds are emulated through sequins of varying radii, arranged together. A chambray base is added to provide textural contrast and freshness.

02. Pop 'Henri
Rousseau' Florals
Floral and faunal elements from painter Henri Rousseau's visual universe are translated into a pop-art inspired composition with prominent outlines. They were used as individual elements, varied compositions as per silhouette and draped as per needed in collaboration with the team.

Artworks were printed, embroidered by hand, edges finished on treadle machine and assembled/ draped.

03. Fox and
Critters
The illustrated book 'The Fox and the Star' by Coralie-Bickford-Smith is translated into playful textiles for this capsule. The striking orange colour, textures, bugs and the fox motif are taken as the inspiration. Further, the idea of a grid is added to create a novel visual language that manifests itself in pixels, pintucks and ruffles.

Moths and dragonflies were created with patchwork of tulle and double jersey. Gold accents to represent light that bugs are drawn to.
